Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a form of phytoqlexin produced by most of the plants when it is attacked by fungi or bacteria. It can also be produced through chemical synthesis and is commonly sold as nutritutional supplement. Reserveratrol has been reported been beneficial in anti-inflammatory, anti cancer, and lowering of blood sugar in various experiments carried on in rat and mouse. Scientists are taking steps to implement such results in humans as well. One such human trial revealed positive results in lowering blood sugar after high doses of the reserveratrol. It is also found in the skin of red grapes and hence a constituent of red wine as well, but the amount is very little. Experiments also revealed that it effectively increased the life of fruit flies, short living fishes and nematode worm. Life extension and cancer prevention are considered to be the most important feature of reserveratrol. While tests have been showcasing positive results a recent study reveled that it can also lead to growth of breast cancer cells.
